SHOCKING CRIME: ROBERT ELLIS OF SELSTON JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN ATHERTONE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Robert Peter Ellis, an 80-year-old resident of Alma Road in Selston, has been sentenced to a significant prison term for his involvement in historic sexual offenses committed against a young girl in Atherstone.The court proceedings revealed a series of heinous acts that took place over a span of several years, specifically between 1975 and 1981, during which Ellis engaged in indecent assaults on the victim.
Ellis was convicted on eight counts of indecent assault following a thorough investigation and a trial at Warwick Crown Court.
The case was particularly sensitive, given the age of the offenses and the impact on the survivor, who bravely provided a statement during the court proceedings.
In her statement, she expressed her motivation for coming forward, stating, “I would like to state I made this statement and reported these matters not just for me but for all survivors of childhood sexual abuse which has a physical and emotional impact for the rest of your life.

Following the trial, Ellis was found guilty on the eight counts of indecent assault.
Additionally, he previously admitted to another count of indecent assault on October 11, which was taken into account during sentencing.
However, the court acquitted him of two other counts of indecent assault and three counts of rape, indicating that the evidence was not sufficient to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt for those charges.
As a result of his convictions, Robert Ellis was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Furthermore, he will serve an additional three years on license after his release, ensuring continued supervision and monitoring.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the justice system to address and prosecute historic sexual offenses, providing some measure of closure for the survivor and the community at large.
