ROBERT CARTER FROM YARM FACES PRISON AFTER ADMITTING TO MAKING OVER 20,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES

In a serious case brought before Teesside Crown Court, Robert Carter, a 67-year-old resident of Nursery Gardens in Yarm, has pleaded guilty to the production of a vast number of indecent images depicting children. The court proceedings took place on a Monday afternoon, revealing the extent of Carter's offenses and the gravity of his actions.

During the hearing, it was established that Carter had created and possessed a staggering total of over 20,000 indecent images, with a breakdown that included 374 images classified as Category A, which are considered the most severe due to their explicit and harmful content. In addition, he admitted to making 777 images categorized as Category B, and an astonishing 20,548 images falling under Category C, indicating a significant and disturbing pattern of offending spanning over a decade.

The court heard that these offenses were committed over a period from 2007 to 2019, highlighting a prolonged period during which Carter engaged in these illicit activities. The case drew attention to the serious nature of the crimes, emphasizing the potential harm inflicted on victims and the severity of possessing such a large collection of illegal material.

Judge Paul Watson QC presided over the case and decided to adjourn proceedings to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, which will help determine Carter’s future sentencing. The judge made it clear that Carter faces the possibility of imprisonment when the case resumes in April, underscoring the seriousness with which the court views these offenses.

In his remarks, Judge Watson stated, “I’m going to adjourn this case until 9th April for sentence so a pre-sentence report can be prepared. I’m going to grant you bail in the meantime. There are several thousand images there. It’s a serious offence and you must expect the possibility of a custodial sentence.” The case remains ongoing, with the court emphasizing the gravity of Carter’s actions and the potential consequences he faces.
