TORQUAY MAN ROBERT BEER SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND AND CHILD
In a harrowing incident that shocked the community of Torquay, Robert Beer, a man with a long history of violent offenses, was convicted and sentenced for a vicious assault on his then-girlfriend and her 12-year-old son.The assault took place in the early hours of October 2020, revealing a disturbing pattern of violence and brutality.
According to court reports, Beer, known locally as 'Bobby,' appeared at Exeter Crown Court to face charges related to the assault.
He was sentenced to two years and one month in prison for causing actual bodily harm.
The court was informed that Beer, who had accumulated 21 convictions for 34 separate offenses over the years, was employed in traffic management at the time of the attack.
On the night of the incident, he spent the evening at home drinking heavily, and his partner, the victim, went to bed to rest.
The violence erupted at approximately 8 a.m.
when Beer entered the bedroom and forcefully dragged his partner out of bed by her hair.
As she struggled to free herself, Beer responded with extreme violence, repeatedly slamming her head into the wall and the floor.
The assault escalated as he continued to drag her around the house by her hair, causing her significant pain and distress.
When she attempted to escape and reach the front door, Beer chased her down and violently pulled her back, inflicting severe whiplash injuries.
He then slammed her head into the door, rendering her unconscious, and dragged her into the living room.
The noise and commotion alarmed her 12-year-old son, who emerged from his bedroom and attempted to call the police using his mobile phone.
However, Beer turned his attention to the young boy, grabbing the phone and threatening him.
The boy, frightened, tried to run outside but was blocked by Beer, who then struck him off his feet, causing him to fall about ten feet to the ground.
Despite his injuries, the boy managed to escape and ran outside to alert neighbors.
The neighbors responded swiftly, entering the house and intervening to prevent Beer from further harming the woman.
During police interviews, Beer attempted to justify his actions by claiming self-defense, but he ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges before his trial.
The court also heard about Beer’s extensive criminal history, which includes manslaughter, various domestic assaults, threats of violence primarily against women, possession of heroin with intent to supply, car and driving offenses, sending obscene messages to former girlfriends threatening to kill, assaulting a police officer, and other offenses related to actual bodily harm and battery against females.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed a lifetime restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victims.
Furthermore, upon his release, Beer is prohibited from entering the town of Torquay, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the community’s need for protection from further violence.
