DIDCOT'S RIO SAMSON'S VICTIM PRAISED BY POLICE FOR EFFORTS
Rio Samson, a resident of Moreton Road in Aston Upthorpe, appeared in Oxford Crown Court on Monday, January 20, where he was convicted and sentenced for five charges including assault by beating, criminal damage, threats to kill, arson, and theft.The 22-year-old was found guilty following a trial in November for physically assaulting his girlfriend at his residence near Didcot on April 13 of the previous year.
He received a prison sentence of three years and eight months.
Detective Constable Alexandra Slyfield, who is part of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, issued a statement regarding the case.
She described Samson as a violent individual who subjected his victim to a series of serious offenses.
She praised the victim for her resilience and efforts throughout the lengthy investigation and trial process.
Slyfield highlighted Samson’s history of domestic violence, referencing his previous suspended sentence as an indication of ongoing issues.
The officer expressed hope that Samson’s imprisonment would bring some reassurance and solace to both his current and former victims.
She reaffirmed Thames Valley Police’s commitment to identifying and challenging those who commit violence against women and girls.
Slyfield also emphasized the importance of victims speaking out, acknowledging that reporting domestic abuse can be incredibly difficult.
The police assured victims that they will be believed and supported at every step.
