FORMER TEACHER JAILED FOR INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN OFFENCES
A former teacher has been sentenced to prison after confessing to multiple charges involving indecent images of minors.Richard Whitaker, aged 54 and currently without a fixed residence, received a two-year prison term on Wednesday at Leeds Crown Court.
Additionally, he was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and mandated to register as a sex offender for the next decade.
Whitaker previously admitted to possession of 40 images classified as Category C, for which he received a sentence of 16 months within his overall two-year term.
He also pleaded guilty to creating (downloading) 19 of the most severe indecent images of children - Category A - along with making 12 Category B images and 74 Category C images.
Further charges related to the distribution of Category C images were also accepted.
At the time of his arrest in July 2024, Whitaker was employed at a school in Leeds but had left his teaching position a week earlier.
