RICHARD VAUGHAN'S SHOCKING VOYEURISM IN DONCASTER AND WHEATLEY: JAIL FOR PERVERTED CAMERA SPY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Doncaster and Wheatley, Richard Vaughan, a man with a troubling criminal history, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in secretly filming women using a hidden camera.The case came to light after police uncovered Vaughan’s illicit activities in the aftermath of his recent release from prison, revealing a pattern of voyeurism that targeted unsuspecting women in busy shopping districts.
Vaughan, aged 44, was found to have used a miniature camera concealed within a pen, which he carried in a bag, to secretly record women in public spaces around Doncaster town centre.
Many of these women were likely unaware they had been filmed, raising serious concerns about privacy violations and the extent of Vaughan’s offending.
The case was brought to Sheffield Crown Court, where the full details of Vaughan’s actions and prior convictions were presented.
Christine Empson, the manager of Victim Support South Yorkshire, described Vaughan’s actions as ‘heinous,’ emphasizing the gravity of his voyeuristic activities.
She pointed out that the true number of victims may never be known, as Vaughan’s covert filming was conducted discreetly, making it impossible to determine exactly how many women he had targeted.
Police officers executed a search warrant at Vaughan’s residence on Broxholme Lane in Wheatley on March 4 of this year.
This visit was part of routine checks following his release from incarceration.
During the search, authorities discovered recording devices and a computer, both of which Vaughan was explicitly prohibited from possessing under the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) issued after his previous convictions.
Despite these restrictions, Vaughan had access to the internet and maintained an email account, further breaching the conditions of his release.
Prosecutor Brian Outhwaite explained that police found a camera ‘secreted in a pillow,’ along with a laptop and a DVD containing three images of extreme adult pornography.
During police interviews, Vaughan admitted to bringing the camera into Doncaster town centre and filming women without their knowledge.
His previous criminal record includes a 2009 conviction where he pleaded guilty to 35 offences, including making and distributing child abuse images and secretly filming an under-16 girl in a bathroom.
Vaughan was sentenced to 27 months in prison for those crimes.
In the current case, Vaughan faced charges of breaching the SOPO multiple times and possessing extreme pornography.
His defence lawyer, Cedric Hennis, argued that Vaughan had purchased the computer solely for job searches and that no explicit content was stored on it.
However, Judge Simon Lawler QC was unimpressed, stating, “The police found the spy pen you admitted using to photograph women on a large number of occasions.” Ultimately, Vaughan was sentenced to three years in prison for his latest offences, marking a significant step in addressing the serious breaches of privacy and trust committed by the convicted pervert in the towns of Doncaster and Wheatley.
