MAN LEARNS HIS FATE OVER HISTORIC INDECENT ASSAULTS ON 13 YEAR OLD
A 66-year-old man is now on the sex offenders' register for 10 years over historic sexual offences involving a 13-year-old girl.Richard Spencer, of Church Lane, Balderton, pleaded guilty to three indecent assaults on the child dating back more than 20 years.
He was arrested and interviewed on October 2, 2017, and made some partial admissions and minimised what he had done to a degree, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
A victim impact statement revealed as the girl grew older what happened had made her shy around boys, and she also had counselling.
Claire Moran, mitigating, said the offences took place over an eight-month period when the complainant was 13.
"He does show remorse and regret in his pre-sentence report and by virtue of his admissions in police interview," said Miss Moran.
"He tells me he is Type 1 diabetic which also makes him particularly at risk during the current pandemic".
Judge Rosalind Coe ordered the defendant be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
"This went on over a period of time and there were repeated occasions", she said.
At the age of 66, apart from a matter in 1999 regarding fraudulent use of a licence, he was otherwise of good character and had led a law-abiding life, the court heard.
"You have some health issues," said the judge.
"I have no doubt the custodial threshold has been passed.
I have to bear in mind the current conditions in prison and the delays of the matters coming to light".
