RICHARD KWAKYE ESCAPES COURT IN TWICKENHAM: CHILD KILLER SENTENCED TO ADDITIONAL THREE YEARS IN PRISON

In a shocking development, Richard Kwakye, a convicted child murderer from Twickenham, has been sentenced to an additional three years behind bars following a dramatic escape from court proceedings. Kwakye, who was originally sentenced to 35 years for the tragic death of 19-month-old Siariah Letang, now faces further incarceration after his daring attempt to flee.

Siariah Letang, a young girl from Thornton Heath, lost her life in July 2011 due to smoke inhalation caused by petrol poured through the letterbox of her grandmother's residence in Camberwell. The incident was a devastating act of violence that shocked the community and led to Kwakye’s initial lengthy imprisonment.

On a routine day in June of the previous year, Kwakye was brought to Kingston County Court to address a family-related matter. However, during the proceedings, he managed to break free from the courtroom, executing a bold and violent escape. Witnesses reported that he injured two security guards with a piece of wood that had a screw fixed to its end, causing injuries before he was eventually pursued and apprehended.

The police officers caught up with him on St James Road, outside Kingston College, where he was finally subdued. The incident raised serious concerns about security measures at the courthouse and the safety of court personnel.

In December, the court increased Kwakye’s sentence by three years, citing his escape from lawful custody, as well as charges of two counts of actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. The authorities have refused to disclose the details of how he managed to escape, with both Serco, the private security contractor, and the Ministry of Justice declining to comment on the specifics of the incident.

Richard Kwakye’s case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in managing high-risk offenders and ensuring the safety of judicial processes. His actions have not only extended his time in prison but also heightened concerns about security protocols in courtrooms across the region.
