2020: 'RAGING BULL' JAILED AFTER BATTERING ELDERLY GRANDPARENTS IN THEIR BUNGALOW
A drunken man battered his elderly grandparents, breaking the spine of a 96-year-old World War Two veteran and beating his bedridden wife who suffered from dementia and has since died.
Richard Davies's attack on his grandfather was so savage he broke his back.
He repeatedly kicked him as he lay helpless on the floor of their Leominster bungalow after the elderly veteran tried to fight back in defence of himself and his wife, punching his grandson in the nose and making it bleed.
His grandmother has died since the attacks.
The grandfather described Davies as "like a mad animal" and a "raging bull" when he drank but was a "good boy" when he was not drinking.
The incident occurred in February when Davies borrowed his grandfather's car to buy alcohol, came home drunk, punched his grandmother twice, and then kicked his grandfather up to 12 times in the back, causing injuries including a vertebral fracture.
Davies then threatened to kill himself and his grandparents, leading to the attack that resulted in injury.
He was jailed for three years and three months and is under a restraining order preventing contact with his grandfather.
