Rhys Thompson, a 28-year-old man hailing from Cardiff, faced justice after a violent assault on his partner, a young woman he had met when she was just 17 years old.The incident unfolded amidst a night of escalating tension and jealousy, culminating in a series of aggressive acts that left the victim injured and emotionally scarred.
According to court reports, the altercation began during a night out when the couple argued over issues of infidelity.
Thompson, consumed by suspicion and anger, accused his partner of being unfaithful and attempted to invade her privacy by trying to read her phone.
The situation quickly deteriorated as he tried to force her out of the bedroom, and in a fit of rage, he threw an empty bottle at her head.
The violence escalated further when he pushed her down the stairs, resulting in injuries to her knee, elbow, and buttock.
Witnesses described the relationship as 'rocky,' noting that Thompson had a history of heavy drinking and taking Xanax during their time together.
On another occasion, the victim recounted how Thompson snatched her phone after she refused to hand it over, accusing her of cheating once again.
This led to him slapping her multiple times, with additional acts of violence occurring when she was not present.
The victim's statement conveyed her profound sense of fear and betrayal, stating, "I feel like I can't trust men.
They seem nice as pie on the outside but what if they turn out like him?
I was terrified." Following the incident, Thompson was arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
At the time of his arrest, he was already serving a suspended sentence for drug driving.
His sentencing included a term of 40 weeks in prison, which encompassed four weeks for breaching his previous sentence.
Additionally, he was subjected to a 10-year restraining order to prevent any further contact with the victim.
