REGINALD SIMONS FROM RAYLEIGH SENTENCED FOR THIRD TIME SEX OFFENCES IN ST. ALBANS

In August 2018, a disturbing case unfolded at St. Albans Crown Court involving Reginald Simons, a 67-year-old man from Rayleigh, Essex, who was found guilty of multiple child sexual offences. The court proceedings revealed a deeply troubling pattern of abuse that spanned several decades, highlighting the severity of his criminal history and the ongoing threat he posed to children.

Simons pleaded guilty to three serious charges: inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, sexually assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, and committing sexual assault on a child under 13. The court was informed that the victim, a young girl, was only eight years old when the abuse began. The sexual assaults were described as repeated and systematic, indicating a prolonged period of exploitation and harm inflicted upon the young victim.

During the sentencing, the judge addressed Simons directly, emphasizing the gravity of his offending history. The judge described his past convictions as shocking and underscored that Simons represented a significant danger to all children. Referring to him as a “serial paedophile,” the judge made it clear that his pattern of offending was deeply concerning and unacceptable.

Simons’ criminal record includes two previous convictions for sexual offences against young girls in Waltham Forest, one dating back to 1972 and another in 1989. These prior convictions demonstrated a long-standing pattern of predatory behavior, which the court took into account when determining his current sentence.

As a result of his latest convictions, the judge sentenced Simons to six years in prison. Additionally, upon release, he will be subject to a four-year extended license period, during which his behavior will be closely monitored. The court also mandated that Simons adhere to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, restricting his activities and contact with children. Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing oversight and public safety measures.
