BALLET DANCER REGAN WILSON GETS JAIL FOR ONLINE TRICK AND RAPE
A professional ballet dancer has been jailed for raping a man who he tricked into having sex with him at a hotel after taking on a fake online persona.Regan Wilson, 23, was said to have used the fake online profile to speak with his victim before arranging to meet him at a hotel in London in January.
Today (Friday), the Doncaster dancer was locked up for four years after admitting two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on day five of his trial earlier this year.
Wood Green Crown Court heard Wilson’s defence unraveled part way through the trial and only then did he decide to enter his guilty pleas.
He was charged with raping his victim in London shortly after the new year having made what a judge described as a “false online persona”.
The same judge added that what Wilson said during cross-examination was a “complete lie” as he misled the court.
Wilson appeared at court in the capital at his sentencing hearing where he was described by his barrister Bethan Rogers as a “very, very fragile young man”.
She described his actions as “utterly twisted and utterly wrong” but alluded to the number of positive references from friends and family.
He was also described as “talented and intelligent”.
The court heard from Ms Rogers that Wilson had struggled with mental health issues at the time of the rapes and experienced a “whirlpool of everything going wrong”.
However, Judge Karim Ezzat reminded Wilson, of Pasture Close, Doncaster, that he was not the victim in this.
He said: “You engaged in behaviour that resulted in you being charged with stalking.
“You created a false persona online.
Things progressed by the time you booked a hotel.
"You tricked the complainant.
He didn’t give you consent to have sex with you.
He believed he was having sex with someone else.
“You aren’t the victim here.” Wilson was sentenced to four years in prison and made the subject of an indefinite restraining order.
He will also be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
