REECE STUBBS HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSER FROM HORNSEA AND HULL COURT HEARING

Reece Peter Stubbs, born on December 12, 1999, and residing at 1 Hillerby Lane, Hornsea HU18 1AR, was involved in a disturbing incident that led to his conviction in 2021. The case centered around a brutal assault on a dog, which left the animal screaming in pain after being punched multiple times. Stubbs, who was 21 years old at the time and already a father of two children—though he lives with his mother—was charged with several serious offenses, including assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

The court proceedings revealed that the incident took place on December 30, 2020, in Hull. A man was walking his dog in the early evening, around 5 pm, when a small black dog approached playfully. Suddenly, Stubbs and another man appeared on the scene. Without warning, Stubbs grabbed the dog by the scruff of its neck and proceeded to punch her multiple times. The dog responded with loud screams and howls, clearly in distress and pain. The owner of the dog, witnessing this assault, crossed the road to confront Stubbs.

In response to the confrontation, Stubbs reacted aggressively. He picked up a dog crate he was carrying and threw it at the man, hitting him in the nose and wrist. During the altercation, the victim’s glasses fell off, and Stubbs, along with his accomplice, stamped on them while threatening the man further. The situation escalated as Stubbs and his associate walked away from the scene. However, the victim’s attempt to record the incident with a torchlight led Stubbs to believe he was being filmed. In a further display of violence, Stubbs approached the victim and threw three powerful punches, often described as 'haymakers.'

Stubbs’s criminal history was also discussed during the court hearing. He had previously appeared at Hull Magistrates’ Court in February of the previous year. At that time, it was noted that Stubbs had recently moved from Hornsea to Kingswood in Hull to be closer to his partner and their children. Despite having no prior convictions, Stubbs quickly accumulated a series of offenses within just six months. His first recorded offense was an assault at the Co-op in Kingswood on August 28, 2019, where he threw a can at a woman. Between October 9 and 20, 2019, Stubbs was involved in thefts, including siphoning petrol from vehicles—stolen fuel valued at approximately £230—and stealing two vacuum cleaners along with a transformer from new homes under construction near his residence.

Further incidents included a public order offense committed on New Year’s Eve 2019 in a street in Kingswood. On January 12, 2020, Stubbs engaged in a violent altercation with a neighbor, during which he punched the man repeatedly, even after knocking him to the ground. The magistrates’ court heard that Stubbs struggled with the responsibilities of fatherhood and was influenced by negative peer associations, which contributed to his poor decision-making.

During his appearance at Hull Crown Court, Catherine Kioko-Gilligan, representing Stubbs, emphasized that he had no previous convictions before these recent offenses. She explained that Stubbs had become involved with detrimental influences but had since taken steps to improve his life, including securing casual employment. Stubbs expressed a desire to be a positive role model for his young children, aged one and four, and acknowledged the need for change to avoid imprisonment.

It was also revealed that Stubbs had not fully engaged with a previous community order, completing only 15 hours of the 300 hours of unpaid work mandated. Despite this, Judge Ahmed Nadim decided to give Stubbs a final chance. He deferred sentencing for six months, until January 17, during which Stubbs was required to complete his unpaid work, attend 17 rehabilitation activity days, and stay out of trouble. The judge warned Stubbs that his behavior over the past 18 months had severely jeopardized his future and that failure to comply with the court’s conditions would result in a substantial prison sentence. The judge emphasized that this was Stubbs’s last opportunity to demonstrate his willingness to change and lead a law-abiding life, warning that if he failed to meet the court’s expectations, he could face significant incarceration.
