REECE HUME FROM KINLOSS INVOLVED IN DOMESTIC ABUSE CASE AT ELGIN SHERIFF COURT
Reece Hume, a 25-year-old serviceman based at Kinloss Barracks, has been at the center of a series of serious allegations related to domestic abuse. The accusations span a period from September 1, 2021, to January 9, 2022, and include incidents that allegedly took place both at Kinloss Barracks and during a trip to Northumberland. Despite the gravity of these allegations, Hume has consistently denied any involvement in the abusive acts attributed to him.During a recent court session at Elgin Sheriff Court, the prosecution decided to abandon the case against Hume. Throughout the proceedings, Hume maintained his innocence by pleading not guilty. Notably, his defense counsel, Matthew O’Neill, withdrew from representing him during the last court appearance in September. Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood commented on the situation, remarking that the withdrawal was 'becoming a bit of a habit,' indicating a pattern of legal difficulties or withdrawals in the case.
The allegations against Hume are extensive and disturbing. They include claims that he physically restrained his partner by pinning her down and sitting on her stomach to restrict her breathing. It is also alleged that he placed a pillow over her face, bit her body and face, and made derogatory remarks during these incidents. Further accusations describe him throwing water at her while she was driving, shouting and swearing at her, and physically assaulting her by seizing her by the throat, locking her in a room, and removing her phone to prevent her from seeking help. Witnesses or victims also reported furniture being thrown, Hume pulling her by her hair, and kicking her during these episodes.
Although the case was temporarily deserted, meaning the proceedings were halted for the time being, it remains active. This indicates that Hume could still face prosecution in the future should new evidence or charges be brought forward. The situation underscores the ongoing legal and social concerns surrounding domestic abuse allegations and the importance of thorough judicial processes in such cases.
