MOTHER OF POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR CHILD GROOMING AND EVIDENCE CONCEALMENT
Rebekah Edwards, mother of Lewis Edwards—a former police officer convicted of child sex offenses—has been found guilty of efforts to obstruct justice by hiding her son's phone in a cat's grave.Court proceedings revealed that she buried Lewis's mobile device in her garden to impede investigations.
It was disclosed that she discussed with her son what to do with the devices, and he advised her to 'bury the black one.' Although she initially gave the authorities two phones, she did not mention the buried one until questioned.
The phones were either broken or no longer functional, with one buried in the garden and another with a shattered screen.
She received a prison sentence of two years after being convicted of perverting the course of justice.
A prosecutor emphasized that her actions demonstrated a disregard for the profound harm caused by her son's misconduct towards young victims.
It was also stated that her behavior was uncharacteristic, as she tried to support her son amid his difficulties.
The case underscored her involvement in concealing evidence related to her son's criminal activities, which included numerous images and grooming of young girls.
