RAYMOND WALL FROM KIRKBY SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN LIVERPOOL
In August 2008, a disturbing case unfolded involving Raymond Wall, a man from Kirkby, who was convicted of heinous crimes against a young girl. The court heard that Wall, now 43, had subjected a 12-year-old girl to repeated sexual abuse over a period exceeding four years. The abuse began when the girl was only 10 years old, with Wall initiating indecent assaults that escalated to full rape within two years of the initial abuse.Prosecutor Anya Horwood detailed that Wall's misconduct was not limited to the sexual assaults. He also made disturbing comments to his young victim, telling her he was 'preparing her' for future relationships, a statement that underscores the manipulative and predatory nature of his actions. The gravity of his crimes only came to light when the victim, who is now 20, confided in her boyfriend about her past. Her boyfriend then encouraged her to report the abuse to the police, leading to Wall's arrest and subsequent trial.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Wall's criminal behavior extended beyond his abuse of the girl. He had also entered into an abusive relationship with a vulnerable woman, who the court described as having the mental capacity of an eight-year-old. The court heard that this woman was subjected to physical violence, including punches and kicks, after an argument broke out while they were shopping for wedding dresses. In a police interview, she admitted that Wall regularly bit, kicked, and punched her, with dozens of injuries documented on her body, highlighting the extent of her suffering.
Wall, who resided at Southdene, Kirkby, faced multiple charges. He pleaded guilty to 11 counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault related to the young girl, as well as three charges of assault on his girlfriend. The court sentenced him to a total of nine years in prison. During the sentencing, Wall displayed defiant behavior, wearing an Everton shirt and making abusive gestures towards the public gallery, while swearing and twitching.
Judge Brian Lewis addressed the court, emphasizing the profound impact of Wall's actions. He noted that the victim had spoken openly about the physical, emotional, and psychological trauma inflicted upon her, and questioned whether she would ever fully recover from her ordeal. The judge's words underscored the severity of the crimes and their lasting effects.
Defense lawyer Jeremy Rawson acknowledged Wall's guilt and cited personal hardships, including the death of his father and a back injury, as factors contributing to his depression. Rawson also mentioned that Wall's girlfriend had chosen to remain with him and had expressed her intention to marry him. Despite these arguments, Wall's behavior in court was confrontational; as he was led away, he shouted, 'I'll spit on you,' directed at his partner, reflecting his defiance and lack of remorse.
