KIRKBY MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF MOTHER WHO TRIED TO STOP FIGHT
A man named James Dempsey, aged 32, was sentenced to 19 years in prison after being convicted of the manslaughter of his mother, Karen Dempsey, who was 55.
He stabbed her in the chest as she attempted to intervene during a fight he was involved in at Brambles pub in Kirkby on 22 August.
During the proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court, it was also revealed that Dempsey had previously stabbed Brian Flynn earlier that night in connection with a drug debt dispute.
He was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter, carrying a knife, and unlawful wounding.

Dempsey expressed remorse, calling his mother his 'rock' and 'best friend,' and stated he regrets stabbing her.
The family described Karen Dempsey as a vibrant, caring woman committed to social justice, who left a meaningful mark on her community.
