RAYMOND TAIT FROM DUNDEE CAUGHT IN SEXUAL PREDATION PLOT NEAR CLEEPINGTON ROAD
A man from Dundee, identified as Raymond Tait, found himself at the center of a disturbing case involving inappropriate online communications with what he believed were underage girls.The incident unfolded when Tait engaged with decoys posing as minors on the internet, only to be caught in a sting operation carried out by paedophile hunters.
Tait, aged 48, later admitted to attempting to contact children from his residence on Clepington Road, a well-known area within Dundee.
According to reports presented at Dundee’s sheriff court, Tait, who is currently unemployed, used the dating platform Wink to connect with profiles under the aliases ‘Alice’ and ‘Olivia’.
He believed ‘Alice’ was 12 years old and ‘Olivia’ was 13.
Over a series of conversations, Tait made increasingly explicit and lewd remarks, crossing boundaries that should have been clear.
The court heard that he shared his phone number via WhatsApp, furthering the inappropriate communication.
Prosecutor Lynne Mannion detailed the nature of the exchanges, stating: “The accused asked ‘Alice’ about her hobbies and school, but the conversation quickly turned sexual.
He commented that she looked sexy in her bra and pants.” She added that Tait’s interactions with ‘Olivia’ were equally disturbing, noting: “He expressed disbelief that she was only 13, thinking she was 18, and described her as ‘really hot’.
He provided his mobile number and even sent a photograph of himself.
During the chat, ‘Olivia’ mentioned coming home from school and wanting to change out of her uniform, to which Tait responded, ‘bet you look good in it though lol’.
He also said, ‘you’re well fit, just a shame I am old enough to be your dad lol’.” These conversations came to light when members of the Protecting Kids Scotland group confronted Tait, an encounter that was live-streamed on social media platforms.
During this confrontation, Tait initially denied any involvement but eventually admitted that the profiles were his, acknowledging, “I know it was stupid,” according to the prosecutor.
Following his admission, police were called, and Tait was arrested.
During police interviews, he made further remarks and admitted to the allegations.
The offences took place between May and October 2022, both at his home and in other locations.
The court was informed that Tait has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register, and Sheriff Martin Edington deferred sentencing until next month to allow for reports to be prepared.
The case remains ongoing as authorities continue their investigation into Tait’s actions and background.
