MAN JAILED FOR FRENZIED KNIFE ATTACK ON PARTNER
Raymond Page, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015, carried out a violent knife assault on his partner Natividad Nituan, aged 70, in July 2017.During the attack, Page used a broken and bent knife to deliver multiple stab wounds with significant force.
He admitted to manslaughter, citing diminished responsibility.
The court was informed that his personality had changed following his cancer diagnosis, as he suffered from depression and persistent pain, which influenced his behavior.
The judge remarked in court that “You struggled to cope with the pain and weight loss from which you suffered and you began to develop symptoms of depression and anxiety.” It was also established that “Page killed his partner because he wrongly believed she was about to leave him, which made him angry.” After the assault, Page received a sentence of five years imprisonment, with a prognosis indicating he had a remaining life expectancy of two to five years.
The court characterized his actions as a frenzied and sustained attack linked to his mental health struggles and a false belief that his partner was departing from him.
