MARK CARRINGTON FROM RADLETT JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE PLOT IN NORTH LONDON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Radlett and the wider Hertfordshire area, Mark Carrington, a 49-year-old NHS consultant anaesthetist, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after being caught attempting to engage in child sexual abuse. The incident unfolded when police, operating undercover, engaged with Carrington through online communications. During these interactions, Carrington believed he was speaking with a person he thought was a fellow offender, and he agreed to meet with a fictional individual with the intent of sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl. This planned meeting was part of an undercover operation designed to prevent such a crime from occurring.
At the time of his arrest, which took place in Finchley, North London, on 26 January, Carrington was employed at the Royal Free Hospital in North London. Following his apprehension, hospital authorities swiftly suspended him from his duties, emphasizing the seriousness with which they responded to the allegations and his subsequent conviction.
During the court proceedings at St Albans Crown Court, Carrington admitted to charges of arranging to commit a child sexual offence. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child. The court heard that there was no evidence linking his criminal activities directly to his professional role at the hospital, but the nature of his actions demonstrated a grave threat to children.
Police officials highlighted that Carrington’s actions underscored his potential danger to minors, as he believed he was preparing to carry out a sexual assault on a young girl. His conduct was deemed highly concerning and indicative of a serious risk to child safety.
As part of his sentencing, Carrington, who resides on Watling Street in Radlett, was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years. Furthermore, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order, which imposes restrictions aimed at preventing any future offenses and protecting the community from potential harm.
