RAYMOND DIXON CAUGHT WORKING IN ACCRINGTON CLUB DESPITE SEX OFFENDER BAN IN CLAYTON-LE-MOORS
In a disturbing breach of legal restrictions, Raymond Dixon, a convicted sex offender from Clayton-le-Moors, was found working at an Accrington-based club that frequently hosts events involving children. The incident came to light during a court hearing at Blackburn magistrates, where it was revealed that Dixon, aged 68 and residing at Stopford Court, Sparth Road, Clayton-le-Moors, had violated a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) imposed on him.According to the prosecution, Dixon had previously been convicted of 34 separate sex offences related to children, which led to the issuance of the SOPO aimed at safeguarding minors from potential harm. The order explicitly prohibited him from engaging in any employment or voluntary work that could involve contact with individuals under the age of 16.
Despite these restrictions, Dixon was found volunteering at the Brooks Club in Accrington, a venue known for hosting weddings, christenings, and other private functions attended by children. Court documents detailed that Dixon served as a compere at the club and also took on the role of a committee member. The club’s regular schedule includes events such as weddings and christenings, which often draw young attendees.
Prosecutor Catherine Allan emphasized that Dixon’s involvement at the club was not incidental. She stated, “He is not allowed to work anywhere which may involve contact with under-16s. For a year, he has been working at the Brooks Club where one of his roles is as a compere. He is also a committee member.”
Further details revealed that Dixon’s voluntary work at the club included collecting glasses during these child-attended functions, raising serious concerns about compliance with the court’s orders and the safety of minors present. The court heard that Dixon’s actions constituted a clear breach of the SOPO, prompting legal action.
In sentencing, magistrates handed Dixon an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, along with a requirement to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and costs amounting to £85. The ruling underscores the ongoing efforts of authorities to monitor and enforce restrictions on convicted sex offenders, especially those with a history of offenses involving children.
