RAY MESSHAM FROM BUCKLEY CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN FLINTSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Buckley, Flintshire, authorities uncovered a serious case of child exploitation involving pensioner Ray Messham, aged 77. The incident came to light in July 2023 when police officers executed a search warrant at his residence following intelligence reports indicating suspicious activity.

During the investigation, law enforcement officials seized Messham’s computer for forensic analysis. The examination revealed a disturbing collection of digital material, including a total of 336 images classified as indecent and prohibited images of children. These images depicted minors as young as one year old, highlighting the severity and disturbing nature of the material involved.

The court proceedings, held at Caernarfon Crown Court, provided further details about the nature of the images. Prosecutor Karl Scholz outlined that the images were categorized into different levels of severity: 95 images fell under Category A, indicating the most serious content; 78 were classified as Category B; and 159 as Category C. Additionally, there were four images identified as prohibited or pseudo images, which are often computer-generated or manipulated.

Messham, who resides on Bistre Close in Buckley, later admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images of children. His guilty plea marked a significant step in the legal process, reflecting acknowledgment of the charges against him.

In sentencing, the court handed down a sentence of eight months imprisonment, which was suspended for 18 months. This means Messham will not serve time immediately but must adhere to certain conditions during the suspension period. Among these conditions, he was ordered to participate in 45 sessions of the 'Maps For Change' programme, a rehabilitation initiative aimed at addressing offending behavior.

Furthermore, Messham was required to pay costs amounting to £420 and was placed under a sexual harm prevention order. This order restricts his activities and movements to prevent further offenses. He was also mandated to comply with sex offender notification requirements for a period of seven years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and community safety measures.
