MAN THREATENS RAPE AGAINST FEMALE OFFICER
A 20-year-old man from Grangetown in Cardiff has received an 18-month prison term after being convicted of multiple hate crimes against police officers and numerous assaults, which included racist abuse, threats of rape, and a hammer attack.Rasheed Jama appeared at Cardiff Crown Court via video link from HMP Swansea and was informed that he could be eligible for release sooner, possibly as early as today, due to the time already served in custody.
The court was told that Jama assaulted police personnel several times in 2025, displaying violent behavior alongside racial insults.
During one incident, he bit and spat at officers trying to restrain him, and in another, he threatened to sexually assault a female officer during his arrest.
Jama was apprehended on June 20 and taken to University Hospital Wales after being found highly agitated, intoxicated, and screaming in a way that suggested he was foaming at the mouth.
Prosecutor Martha Smith-Higgins explained that Jama became verbally aggressive and confrontational after being transported to the hospital, shouting racial slurs along with a far-right slogan.
Following his removal from the emergency department, he continued attacking officers outside, spitting, kicking, biting, and using antisemitic language.
The next day, during police interviews, Jama expressed regret for attacking officers but refused to show remorse for the racial slurs.
On August 29, police were summoned to a shopping centre to remove Jama after he threatened security staff with a knife.
During the arrest, he also threatened to rape a female police officer.
Subsequently, on September 11, Jama carried out an unprovoked hammer assault, striking a man in the back of his head at Penarth Labour Club, causing significant head injuries.
He was captured nearby shortly afterward.
Jama admitted to 11 charges related to these incidents, including racially motivated assault, assaulting emergency workers, grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, and racially motivated assault.
The court sentenced him to 18 months in prison, with a judge indicating he would be eligible for release after serving at least 40% of his sentence.
