RAJASH LAMA CAUGHT IN OLDBURY PLOT TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT NEWPORT HOTEL

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Rajash Lama, a 48-year-old resident of Oldbury, was found to have been actively planning to meet a 14-year-old girl for sexual purposes at a hotel in Newport. The incident, which unfolded over a span of three weeks, highlights the dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts.

According to court proceedings held at Cardiff Crown Court, Lama had traveled from his home in Oldbury, located in the West Midlands, with the explicit intention of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The court was informed that Lama had been communicating with the girl over the internet, attempting to arrange a meeting at the Gateway Express hotel in Newport. His plans were thwarted before any physical contact could occur, but the charges against him reveal a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.

During the brief hearing, Lama chose to speak only to confirm his identity and to enter guilty pleas on six counts related to his attempts to exploit the minor. The court heard that the offending behavior took place between May 11 and June 1 of the previous year, 2017. Lama admitted to attempting to establish sexual communication with a child, as well as trying to incite her to engage in sexual activity on three separate counts. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to attempting to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a minor and to arranging a meeting at the Newport hotel with the intent of committing a child sex offence.

Prosecutor Michael Jones QC clarified that the charges involved a 14-year-old girl, and Lama’s pleas indicated that he did not reasonably believe she was over the age of 16 at the time of their communications. The court was told that Lama’s actions demonstrated a clear intent to exploit the girl, and his plans were only prevented from reaching fruition by law enforcement intervention.

Judge Thomas Crowther QC adjourned the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and a psychiatric assessment, which are expected to take approximately six weeks. Lama was granted bail under strict conditions, including residence at his Oldbury address on Titford Road, and restrictions on contact with children under 16. He was also ordered not to delete his internet browsing history or use private browsing modes when online, to ensure transparency and monitoring.

The judge emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating, “The fact I am adjourning the case says nothing about how you will be dealt with. All sentencing options are open, including immediate custody, which is highly likely in this case.” Lama is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on March 15, where a final decision will be made regarding his punishment for these disturbing offenses.
