TOURIST JAILED AFTER RAPING A TEENAGER
Rafael Nascimento received a 13-year prison sentence on 17 April following an incident at Regent Hill in August 2025.A tourist was convicted after he took a teenage boy to a property in central Brighton and raped him.
The 17-year-old victim was sitting on a bench along Dyke Road in Brighton early in the morning on 10 August 2025, waiting for public transportation to resume service.
He was approached by 38-year-old Rafael Nascimento, a Brazilian national visiting Brighton temporarily and staying nearby.
Nascimento initiated a conversation with the teenager, asking for guidance on where to buy cigarettes at that hour.
The victim helped him and accompanied Nascimento to a nearby shop.
Subsequently, Nascimento gained the teen’s trust and took him to an address on Regent Hill, where the assault took place.
The police responded swiftly to the report, arresting Nascimento on the same day when he was returning to the address.
He was initially charged with a single count of male rape and appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 12 August.
He was later indicted on additional charges, including three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and inciting sexual activity.
He pleaded not guilty to all counts, and the case progressed to trial.
On 2 February, a jury at Lewes Crown Court found Nascimento guilty of four counts of rape and inciting sexual activity but cleared him of sexual assault charges.
He was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
During sentencing on 17 April at Lewes Crown Court, Nascimento was sentenced to a 13-year imprisonment.
