PENSIONER CONVICTED OF ABUSING GIRL FOR 5 YEARS IN 1990S
A Lancashire resident has been found guilty of abusing a young girl in the 1990s.Rab MacDonald, aged 75, was convicted by a jury after a five-day court hearing at Preston Crown Court on April 20.
Lancashire Police became aware of the allegations in 2023 when the victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted repeatedly by MacDonald during the 1990s.
The majority of the offences reportedly took place in the Parbold and Skelmersdale regions, both of which are MacDonald’s hometown areas.
After consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service, MacDonald faced 12 counts of indecent assault.
His first trial in September 2025 involved allegations that he indecently assaulted a girl 12 times from 1993 to 1998, when she was between 11 and 16 years old.
That trial resulted in a hung jury, leading to a new hearing scheduled for April 13 at Preston Crown Court.
At the second trial, MacDonald denied the charges, but the jury ultimately found him guilty of seven offences.
The 75-year-old, from Broadmead, Parbold, is scheduled to appear in court again on June 8 for sentencing.
