DUNDEE MAN STRIPS NUDE, ATTEMPTS ABDUCTION AND ASSAULTS IN TOY STORE
A man named Prezymyslaw Kaluzny, aged 41, committed a horrific assault in a Dundee toy store on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.The court heard that Kaluzny, carrying a baseball bat, entered Toys ‘R Us at around 2.30 pm and proceeded to strip completely naked inside the store.
He then began shouting and brandishing the bat, causing fear among shoppers.
Witnesses described his behaviour as ranting and raving in Polish, which led him to attempt an abduction of a six-year-old boy by grabbing his arm and dragging him along the ground.
He then picked up the boy and tried to take him out of the store against his will.
The child’s 67-year-old grandmother intervened but was assaulted by Kaluzny with a cricket bat, injuring her.
Several customers and staff managed to restrain and pin down Kaluzny until police arrived.
During transport to the police station, Kaluzny managed to break free from handcuffs.
The police investigation revealed Kaluzny’s history of violent offences, including robbery, hostage-taking, and burglary, with previous jail terms in Poland.
He pleaded guilty to six charges, including possession of an offensive weapon, threatening behaviour, public indecency, assaulting the child, abducting the child, and assaulting the grandmother.
Not guilty pleas were accepted for other charges such as theft and driving offences.
He is currently detained at Murray Royal Hospital, where a court-imposed interim order mandates treatment for a mental disorder.
A review hearing is scheduled for December, during which CCTV footage of the attack will be reviewed and detailed charges discussed.
