CLEVELAND POLICE OFFICER RESIGNS AFTER STORING EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY ON PHONE
An officer in Cleveland Police’s vulnerability unit, PC Phillip Taylor, was compelled to resign after it was discovered he stored an extreme pornographic video on his phone for over a year. The officer had received a video of a person performing a sex act on a dog, which was linked to a WhatsApp group unrelated to the police force.
An accelerated disciplinary hearing revealed that Taylor served 19 years before resigning in disgrace after accepting an adult caution for the offence.
The incident came to light when the video was recovered from his phone a year after he received it.
He admitted to receiving, viewing, and storing the disturbing video, and failing to report it to his superiors.
Taylor accepted a criminal caution in June and resigned in July, with his last shift on July 31.
The evidence against him was deemed irrefutable, and he was placed on the Police Barred List, prohibiting him from joining any other force.
Chief Constable Mark Webster refused a private hearing to protect Taylor’s family from embarrassment.
Detective Constable Susan Moore, who led the investigation, described his behavior as 'unforgivable' and said it was 'gross misconduct given his role within the force.' Peter Littlewood from the Cleveland Police Federation stated that Taylor apologized for his actions and the embarrassment caused.
Webster affirmed that such conduct would not be tolerated and emphasized that it was 'disgusting' and unacceptable in his force.
