PHILLIP GYDE SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR MURDERING WIFE IN STAFFORD

Phillip Gyde, a 59-year-old butcher, was convicted of murdering his wife, Susan Gyde, following an argument triggered by suspicions that she was communicating with another man.

The tragic incident took place inside their home on St Chads Road, where Gyde attacked Susan after a heated dispute.

He strangled her in their bathroom and then placed her body on a bed before confiding in relatives about what had occurred.

Gyde's actions came to light after police were called to the scene, responding to reports of the assault.

During his trial at Stafford Crown Court, Gyde was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years and three months.

The court heard that Gyde lost control during the confrontation after threatening to throw her mobile phone into the toilet.

Remarkably, their 12-year-old son was unharmed and was discovered sleeping in the house during the investigation.

Family members described Susan as a "caring, thoughtful, and loyal person," expressing their profound sorrow and emphasizing how much she would be missed—particularly by her son, who she loved and would have offered wisdom.

The court's sentence reflects the gravity of Gyde's actions and the tragic loss of Susan, which resulted from a conflict over her alleged affair.
