THUG JAILED FOR SUSTAINED ABUSE OF PREGNANT WOMAN
A man convicted of assaulting a pregnant woman and threatening her with a knife has received a prison sentence.Phillip Brown forcefully hurled a computer monitor at the woman in April 2012, causing her jaw to fracture and her teeth to become dislodged during the violent assault.
In an unrelated incident, Brown falsely accused the woman of infidelity and detained her in a house for ten hours, during which he wielded a knife and issued threats.
The woman, deeply affected by the events, recounted that she and her parents who waited nearby, were overwhelmed by fear and distress.
Her parents would sit near her residence in their car to monitor Brown’s whereabouts.
In her victim impact statement, she expressed her fear for her life caused by Brown’s actions.
She described the lasting impact of the abuse, noting how the trauma continues to affect her; she vividly recalls the terror and panic, and struggles with intense nightmares where she is trapped in a house with Brown trying repeatedly to escape.
Following these incidents, she reported a loss of confidence and self-esteem, and said she now finds it difficult to trust others fully.
“I will never be the same person I was before I met Phillip,” she stated.
“I hope today’s sentence will bring me some closure and help me begin to rebuild my life.” The court found Brown guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment during a trial at Teesside Crown Court.
The 38-year-old, residing on Dodds Street in Darlington, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on November 1.
After the sentencing, Heidi Weir, an officer from Darlington Safeguarding Team who led the investigation, commended the woman for her bravery and courage in providing evidence.
