SELSEY MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR EX-GIRLFRIEND'S MURDER
Phillip Brown, who is 46 years old and from Selsey, was convicted of the murder of his former partner, Deborah Levey, at her residence in West Sussex during January. His sentence requires a minimum of 15 years in prison after being found guilty at Lewes Crown Court.
The court was informed that Brown smothered Ms.
Levey, aged 44, using a cushion.
Prosecutor Mark Dennis QC pointed out that evidence suggested asphyxiation caused her death and dismissed claims of natural causes or self-inflicted harm.
The judge characterized Brown’s conduct as manipulative, noting, "The jury saw through the web of deceit and lies." During proceedings, it was disclosed that Ms.
Levey had ended her relationship with Brown two months before and described him as having a 'Jekyll and Hyde' nature.
The prosecution contended that he was possessive and controlling, and that he continued to pursue her, ultimately killing her during an afternoon when he was rejected after drinking and conversing at her home.
Following her death, Brown sent her misleading text messages expressing concern, which appeared insincere.
The judge criticized his display of emotion, describing his tears as 'crocodile tears,' and highlighted his lack of remorse.
