MAN, 66, RAPED YOUNG WOMAN AFTER PLYING HER WITH DRINKS
A 66-year-old man who raped a vulnerable young woman after plying her with drinks until she was “almost unconscious” is beginning an 11-year jail sentence.Philip Walsh will also have to register as a sex offender for life.
Walsh was said to have planned his assault by giving his victim double measures before taking her to his flat by taxi and raping her in his bedroom when she was inebriated.
He was also drunk.
Walsh’s daughter, Lynzy Walsh, 40, who had also been in the taxi, was in another room at the time and later told “a pack of lies” to police, telling them that the victim was “at best tipsy”.
In fact, CCTV of the scene showed the victim heavily intoxicated, struggling to stand, and, at one point, crawling on her hands.
The young woman later went to Calderdale Royal Hospital where, after an examination, Walsh’s semen was found on vaginal swabs and on her underwear.
He was arrested and interviewed but answered “no comment” to questions.
Sentencing Walsh at Bradford Crown Court, Mr Recorder Abdul Iqbal KC told him: “There has been a huge and serious psychological trauma on her young life caused by your behaviour.”
