TAVERHAM MAN FACES JAIL OVER SEX CHATS WITH '14-YEAR-OLD'
A 62-year-old man has been warned he faces a jail sentence over explicit chats with a teenager under the guise of 'sex education'.Philip Thomas, of Priorswood in Taverham, believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old but was in fact in contact with a decoy account.
Thomas pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity by encouraging masturbation and coaching sexual education.
He also admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child between August and November 2023.
Holly Postle, prosecuting, said his online messages had become sexual in nature including offering to teach her how to masturbate.
He later also sent explicit images of himself and asked for photos in return.
Magistrates were told the classification of the offences meant they carried up to three years in prison.
They committed his case to be sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on August 18, saying it was 'beyond the powers of this court'.
The article states he believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old, but it was a decoy account, and he pleaded guilty to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
