EX-TEACHER AVOIDS JAIL AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO SEXUAL ASSAULT
A former teacher, Philip Scott, has been acquitted of jail time after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at his former home in Ludgershall on December 29, 2024.
The assault left the victim with bruising and caused her to suffer panic attacks, significantly impacting her mental health.
Scott, aged 35 and previously head of a department, admitted to committing the offence at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on May 12.
During the court process, it was revealed that Scott's actions were alcohol-fueled, as he had consumed a considerable amount of gin.
He was later sentenced on June 12 to nine months in prison, suspended for 12 months, in consideration of his previous good character, remorse, and prospects for rehabilitation.
The court also ordered Scott to pay £1,000 in compensation to his victim, register as a sex offender for 10 years, and adhere to a one-year restraining order preventing contact with the woman.
Additionally, he paid a £114 surcharge to victim services and £85 in court costs.
The judge described the offence as very serious, but ultimately suspended due to mitigating factors.
