STANLEY MAN JAILED FOR DECADE AFTER VIOLENT RAPE ASSAULT
A rapist has been sentenced to ten years in prison after a prolonged assault on his victim, which lasted approximately three or four hours in December 2017 in the victim's home.
Philip Howard, aged 28 and residing in South Moor, Stanley, was found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court of two counts of rape and one of sexual assault by penetration.
It was reported that Howard had been drinking alcohol and also admitted to taking cocaine before the incident.
Following his conviction, Howard will serve a ten-year prison sentence and will be on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Andy Froggatt, who led the investigation, stated, "This was a harrowing and traumatic ordeal for the victim who has shown great resolve and courage throughout to bring Howard to justice.
Howard has shown no compassion or remorse for what he did and we hope his time in prison will allow him to reflect on the trauma he has caused."
