BRADFORD PAEDOPHILE PHILIP DAVEY SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE GIRLS

In November 2008, a disturbing case unfolded in Bradford involving Philip Davey, a man whose outwardly respectable appearance concealed a deeply depraved nature. Davey, a married recruitment consultant from Denbrook Avenue, Tong Street, Bradford, was sentenced to a lengthy 20-year prison term after being convicted of heinous sexual offenses against three teenage girls. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of manipulation, intimidation, and exploitation that left a lasting scar on his victims.

Judge Jonathan Rose delivered a stern and condemnatory judgment, describing Davey as a wicked and arrogant individual who committed these acts solely for his own selfish sexual gratification. The judge emphasized that Davey’s actions were driven by lust and depravity, with no justification or remorse evident during the trial. Despite his marriage, Davey denied the allegations, which included rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault, and showed no emotion as the court detailed the extent of his misconduct.

The trial, which lasted nine days at Bradford Crown Court, established that Davey’s offending began when he offered one of the teenage girls a lift in his car and subsequently subjected her to sexual assault. The court was told that this initial act appeared to have ignited his desire for further abuse. The judge stated, “I am satisfied that first offence undoubtedly inflamed your desire for this girl.” Over time, Davey repeatedly raped this girl, who was only 15 at the time, and she was terrified to report her abuse to her parents or anyone else, fearing retaliation and intimidation.

Judge Rose highlighted that Davey used a combination of arrogance and intimidation to silence his victims, ensuring their silence and continuing his abuse whenever it suited him. The court heard that the girl turned to self-harm as a result of the trauma inflicted by Davey’s repeated assaults. The judge made it clear that Davey’s actions had a devastating impact on her mental health and well-being, stating, “She turned to self harm. Something for which you and you alone are to blame.”

When the first victim’s claims about having a boyfriend surfaced, Davey shifted his focus to another 16-year-old girl. His predatory behavior continued as he indecently assaulted her after spiking her drink with alcohol and even attempted to rape her. The court also heard about a third victim, a 15-year-old girl, who may have had a crush on Davey but was nonetheless subjected to rape on two separate occasions. The judge noted that Davey had “groomed” his latter two victims through text messages and online communication, further demonstrating his manipulative tactics.

In addition to his prison sentence, Davey was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which restricts his future contact with girls under 16 and bans him from using the internet. He was also disqualified for life from working with children and is required to register as a sex offender with the police upon his release. Judge Rose condemned Davey as a wicked man, stating, “A paedophile and a pervert who deserves punishment and from whom society deserves to be separated.”

The judge praised the bravery of the teenage victims who testified during the trial, acknowledging the courage it took for them to recount their traumatic experiences. He also criticized Davey’s denial of guilt, pointing out that his refusal to show remorse meant that the victims were effectively re-victimized by having to relive their ordeals in court. “It nevertheless means that you do not even have the mitigation in this case of a guilty plea nor have you demonstrated at any stage even one ounce of remorse,” Judge Rose concluded, underscoring the severity of his condemnation.
