MAN JAILED AFTER ADMITTING MULTIPLE CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A 56-year-old man from Westbury has received a custodial sentence after admitting to engaging in sexual communications with a minor and attempting to meet them.His violations were compounded by a breach of bail conditions set by the court.
Swindon Crown Court was informed that Philip Burgess sent explicit messages online to an individual he believed to be 14 years old.
After his initial arrest and bail in February 2024 for this offense, Burgess committed further breaches and was re-arrested for violating the bail conditions.
An interim Sexual Harm Prevention Order was placed on him.
He faced additional charges in November 2025 while still awaiting sentencing, including breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Burgess was charged with two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child, inciting a minor to engage in sexual acts, attempting to meet a child following grooming activities, and breaching the order.
During a court hearing held on Friday, 27th March, Burgess was sentenced to 57 months in prison.
He was also prohibited from working with children and vulnerable adults and ordered to pay a surcharge of £228.
