PHILIP BIRRELL FROM ROSYTH SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND HARASSMENT IN DUNFERMLINE
A 50-year-old man named Philip Birrell, residing on McGrigor Road in Rosyth, has been sentenced to undertake unpaid community service after being found guilty of domestic abuse offences against his former partner. The incidents in question took place over a period spanning nearly two years, from May 1, 2017, to March 31, 2019, and involved multiple acts of emotional and psychological abuse.According to court records, Birrell admitted to engaging in a series of harmful behaviors during this timeframe. These included calling his former partner derogatory names on various occasions, which contributed to a pattern of verbal abuse and intimidation. Additionally, he was found to have shown an intimate image of his then partner to her employer, an act that not only violated her privacy but also caused significant distress and embarrassment.
The incidents occurred at multiple locations, including Birrell’s residence and a care home in Dunfermline, where the abuse and harassment took place. The court proceedings took place at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, where the case was heard by Sheriff Susan Duff.
During the sentencing, Sheriff Duff emphasized the seriousness of the offences, which involved both emotional abuse and breaches of privacy. She ordered Birrell to complete 225 hours of unpaid work as part of a community payback order, along with a 12-month period of supervision to monitor his conduct moving forward. Furthermore, a non-harassment order was issued against him, prohibiting any contact or harassment of his former partner for a duration of two years, in an effort to protect her from further harm.
Birrell’s actions have been formally recognized as serious violations of personal safety and dignity, and the court’s sentence aims to both punish and rehabilitate him, while also safeguarding his former partner from future incidents.
