PETER TURTON FROM SHELF SENTENCED TO 5.5 YEARS FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT IN BRADFORD
A man responsible for a violent assault on a woman has been handed a significant prison sentence of five and a half years.The incident, which took place in Shelf, was brought before Bradford Crown Court, where 29-year-old Peter Turton was sentenced for his actions.
During the court proceedings, detailed accounts of the injuries inflicted upon the female victim were presented.
It was revealed that she sustained extensive bruising across her body, along with bleeding from a head wound.
Witnesses and medical reports indicated that her hair had been forcibly ripped out during the assault, highlighting the severity of her injuries.
The attack involved Turton grabbing the woman’s hair, slapping her face, and kicking her in the head, actions that caused significant physical trauma.
The court was told that Turton appeared via video link from HMP Leeds, where he was serving time for other matters, and he subsequently pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, and criminal damage.
In delivering the sentence, Recorder Silverton emphasized the dangerous nature of Turton’s conduct, describing him as posing “a high risk of harm.” The court was informed through a pre-sentence report that the victim’s injuries would likely have long-lasting effects on her emotional and psychological health, with recovery being difficult or even impossible in some respects.
The report also revealed that Turton attempted to justify his violent behaviour by blaming substance abuse, claiming he had been drinking throughout the day and using cocaine to top up his intoxication.
Despite these excuses, the court found his actions to be serious and deserving of a substantial custodial sentence, which totals 68 months in prison.
