PETER NOYCE FROM TITCHFIELD ESCAPES JAIL AFTER DOWNLOADS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN PORTSMOUTH
In November 2020, Peter Noyce, a 44-year-old IT professional residing on Gardner Road in Titchfield, found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation concerning the possession and distribution of child abuse images. The case unfolded after police conducted a search of his residence on August 15 of the previous year, uncovering a disturbing collection of approximately 14,000 indecent images and videos depicting children, some of whom appeared to be extremely young.During the subsequent court proceedings at Portsmouth Crown Court, Noyce admitted to three charges of making indecent images of children. The evidence presented by prosecutor Adam Slack detailed the extent of Noyce’s illicit activities, revealing that he had downloaded these images from peer-to-peer websites over a period spanning from January to August of 2019. The police investigation uncovered that Noyce employed tactics such as renaming files and deleting them after viewing, in an apparent attempt to conceal his activities. The search terms used by Noyce further indicated a specific interest in images of children, including those involving very young children and infants.
Authorities found that Noyce’s actions had evolved into a disturbing addiction, with the downloads occurring over several months. The investigation highlighted that he had become increasingly immersed in this harmful material, which included some of the most severe categories of child abuse imagery, such as moving images involving very young children and infants being tortured or raped. The severity of the content was underscored by the court, which noted that some images depicted acts of extreme cruelty.
Following his arrest, Noyce resigned from his position as an IT worker. He has since turned to stock market trading as a means of livelihood. The court was informed that Noyce has already been registered on the sex offender register, and that his electronic devices will be destroyed to prevent further access to such material.
Addressing Noyce directly, Judge Roger Hetherington emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating, “The bulk of the images are category C but there were some of category A including moving images involving very young children and babies being tortured or raped.” The judge acknowledged that Noyce had taken steps to address his addiction, including completing a course offered by the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, and noted his efforts to break the cycle of self-disgust.
In sentencing, Noyce received a two-year community order, which includes 30 days of rehabilitation activities. Additionally, he was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £340. The court’s decision reflected a recognition of his efforts to seek help, but also underscored the seriousness of possessing such harmful material, especially given the nature of the images involved.
