PETER MCGINNES JAILED FOR 13 YEARS IN LOUGHBOROUGH FOR RAPE AND INDECENT ASSAULT

A man identified as Peter McGinnes has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 13 years after being convicted of serious sexual offenses, including rape and indecent assault. The conviction was handed down at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday, 14 May, following a jury trial that examined allegations stemming from historic incidents in the Woodhall area.

Peter McGinnes, aged 65 and residing on Woodthorpe Avenue in Loughborough, had previously denied all charges brought against him. However, the court found him guilty of the offences, which involved a woman and a child, with the crimes occurring some time ago but only recently brought to light. The court sentenced him to serve eight years for the rape charge and an additional five years for indecent assault, with the sentences to be served consecutively, effectively totaling 13 years of imprisonment.

During the proceedings, court officials revealed that McGinnes had meticulously planned his criminal acts. Evidence presented indicated that he deliberately manipulated his victims by providing them with alcohol and drugs, likely to impair their judgment and facilitate his unlawful actions. Such premeditation underscores the severity of his crimes and the breach of trust involved.

In addition to his prison sentence, McGinnes was subjected to a 10-year restraining order, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting the victims or their families. Furthermore, he was placed on the sexual offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community.

DC Carla Sutton, who led the investigation into the case, expressed her firm stance on the matter. She stated, “McGinnes’ actions were totally unacceptable and have no place in Lincolnshire.” She emphasized the importance of justice for victims, saying, “While these crimes took place some time ago, it is still our duty to provide victims with justice and I’m glad we’ve been able to give them some form of closure.”

DC Sutton also extended her gratitude to the victims for their bravery in coming forward and to the colleagues who assisted in building the case. She reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to thoroughly investigating all reports of sexual offenses, regardless of when they occurred, to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.

If anyone has been a victim of rape, sexual assault, or any other sexual offense, authorities urge them to report it as soon as possible. They emphasize that even if individuals are unsure or not ready to speak, their reports are vital for safeguarding and justice. The police acknowledge that coming forward can be difficult, and they offer support and understanding for those who need time before discussing their experiences.
