PETER HOLMES FROM BRISTOL AND GLUSBURN JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AT MALSIS SCHOOL
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Peter Holmes, a retired teacher and rugby coach, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a series of serious sexual offences committed against pupils at the now-closed Malsis School in Glusburn, North Yorkshire.Holmes, who resides on King Street in Bristol, was found guilty of abusing 19 students over a span of two decades, with the abuse occurring from the 1970s through the 1990s during his tenure at the private educational institution.
Holmes's criminal activities included a total of 28 charges, encompassing multiple counts of indecent assault and acts of indecency with minors.
The conviction was handed down at Bradford Crown Court on a Friday, following a comprehensive six-week trial held in April and May of this year.
Despite the jury's inability to reach a verdict on five of the charges, the complainant chose not to pursue a retrial, leading to Holmes's conviction on the remaining counts.
As part of his sentencing, Holmes was ordered to register as a sex offender and was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for the rest of his life.
These measures are designed to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent further harm.
Malsis School, located at Malsis Hall near Crosshills, was an independent preparatory school that operated until its closure in 2014.
The school has a troubling history, with other allegations of sexual misconduct surfacing over the years.
Notably, North Yorkshire Police have been investigating 74-year-old music teacher David John Hope, who is currently serving a 17-year prison sentence for raping a boy during the 1980s, highlighting a pattern of abuse linked to the institution.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring justice to victims of abuse and to hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of the passage of time or their status as educators or community figures.
