MAN HAS HIS SENTENCE CUT AFTER COMMITTING SEX OFFENCES AS A TEEN
In May 2022, Hodgkinson, aged 68, received a six-year prison sentence at Sheffield Crown Court after admitting to multiple counts of indecent assault.
He was found to have assaulted two young girls during the 1970s, when he was between 16 and 21 years old.
The Court of Appeal judges noted that some length of immediate custodial sentence was appropriate, particularly because several of the offences occurred when he was considered a young adult rather than a child.
However, they also determined that the original prison term was excessive, as it significantly exceeded the maximum sentence available at the time the crimes took place.
As a result, his sentence was reduced to four years, with an additional two years on extended licence.
