TAIN MAN AVOIDS JAIL FOR POSSESSING OVER 200 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
Peter Foster, a 49-year-old man from Tain, was convicted of possessing more than 200 indecent images of children on his electronic devices.
Police seized mobile phones, a hard drive, and a laptop from his home, and the investigation found images of children between the ages of six and 15.
Some of these images were classified as category A, which indicates the most serious abuse.
The court heard that all images were accessible to the devices' users and were created within a span of five years, from January 29, 2019, to May 29, 2024.
Foster previously admitted to a single charge related to downloading the material.
During the sentencing, he was spared jail and placed under a community payback order, which includes supervision for three years and 250 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, a sexual harm prevention order was imposed, although its terms were not specified.
Foster was arrested at his home, interviewed, cautioned, and charged.
His case was heard at Inverness Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Gary Aitken sentenced him.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offence but chose a community sentence over imprisonment, following the recommendations from a pre-sentencing report.
