PETER EDWARDS FROM SOUTH PERROTT INVOLVED IN HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE CASE IN DORSET
Peter Edwards, a 36-year-old resident of South Perrott near Beaminster in Dorset, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a black Labrador named Max. The disturbing case came to light after authorities uncovered evidence of Edwards’ involvement in animal cruelty and sexual exploitation through a detailed investigation.Edwards was found to have engaged in the sexual assault of Max, the Labrador, and had also encouraged another individual, Jonathan Barton from Yeovil, Somerset, to participate in the same abusive acts with the dog. The abuse was documented through videos and photographs stored on Edwards’ mobile phone and computer devices, which police examined during their investigation. These materials included not only footage of the abuse but also images of child pornography and extreme pornography involving animals, some of which depicted sexual activity with Edwards’ own dog.
The police’s discovery of these vile images and videos was a turning point in the case. It was revealed that Edwards had pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual intercourse with an animal, one count of encouraging or assisting in the commission of an offence, as well as three counts of making indecent images of a child and three counts of possessing extreme pornographic images. The court heard that Edwards expressed concern about the fate of Max after his arrest, and the dog has since been rehomed to a safer environment.
During the court proceedings at Bournemouth Crown Court, it was disclosed that Edwards exhibits traits associated with autism and possesses a high level of intelligence. However, he also displays bizarre attitudes and behaviors that contributed to his criminal conduct. His legal representative, John Dyer, described Edwards as having become highly isolated, suffering from anxiety and depression, and being signed off work at the time of his arrest.
Despite the severity of his crimes and the clear danger he posed to animals and children, Edwards was not sentenced to prison. Instead, he received a community order that will last for three years. The judge, Mr. Justice Climie, emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and expressed concern about Edwards’ vulnerability if incarcerated, noting that he would likely face taunting and violence from other inmates, which would hinder his chances of reform.
The court’s sentence included a three-year community order with up to 60 days of rehabilitation activities, a three-month curfew from 8 pm to 6 am, and a five-year criminal behavior order prohibiting Edwards from owning, possessing, or caring for any dog unless accompanied by the dog’s owner. Additionally, Edwards was placed under a sexual harm prevention order and ordered to register as a sex offender for five years. The case has drawn significant attention due to the disturbing nature of the crimes and the legal measures taken to prevent future offenses.
