PETER DAVITT SENTENCED IN BASINGSTOKE AND KINGSCLEERE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Basingstoke and Kingsclere, Peter Davitt, a 55-year-old warehouse worker, was brought before Winchester Crown Court to face serious allegations of sexual abuse against a young girl. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior that spanned several years, beginning when the victim was only six years old.

Davitt, who resides in Kingsclere, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The charges included the rape of a child under the age of 13, sexual assault involving penetration of a child under 13, and other sexual assaults on a girl under 13. Additionally, he admitted to causing or inciting the young girl to engage in sexual activities, further compounding the severity of his crimes.

The court was informed that the abuse inflicted upon the young victim persisted for approximately six years, ending only when she reached the age of 12. The details of the case painted a grim picture of sustained violence and exploitation, with the young girl subjected to repeated sexual attacks during her formative years.

In sentencing, the judge imposed a total of 13 years in prison on Davitt. His sentence includes seven years for the most serious charge, with an additional six years to be served consecutively. Furthermore, he received a six-month sentence and two 30-month sentences, both to run concurrently with the primary sentence. As part of his punishment, Davitt is also required to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions following his release.

Since his initial release in September 2017, Davitt has been living in Basingstoke, but his criminal history and recent conviction have brought renewed attention to his case.
