PETER BRAME SHAMES BRADFORD AND SHIPLEY WITH REPEATED SEX OFFENCES AND PUBLIC INDECENCY

In September 2014, Peter Brame, a 67-year-old man with a long history of sexual offences and public indecency, appeared in court amidst a series of troubling incidents that have spanned several years across Bradford and Shipley. Brame, who has been repeatedly convicted of groping, exposure, and other sexual misconduct, was present in court under circumstances that underscored his ongoing struggles with alcohol dependency and his failure to comply with court orders.

Brame’s latest appearance was marked by bizarre and disruptive behavior. As he was led from the cells, he loudly proclaimed that he was Elvis Presley, singing loudly and refusing to stand for the judge. His conduct was further characterized by his chaotic demeanor, wearing an oversized pink jumper, and his apparent intoxication. The court was informed that Brame, a homeless alcoholic, had neglected to register at Trafalgar House Police Station after purchasing alcohol with a substantial sum of pension payments. These payments had been suspended during his time in prison and were handed out upon his release, but he failed to complete the mandatory registration process the week after his release from Leeds Prison on August 8.

His lawyer, Claire Moran, explained that Brame’s lifestyle was marked by instability and substance abuse, which hindered his ability to engage with probation services. Despite this, two charities had visited him in prison and suggested that he could be housed in a hostel on Leeds Road, Bradford. The court agreed to adjourn proceedings until October 10 to allow authorities to explore suitable housing options for him.

During the hearing, Brame’s behavior escalated as he shouted from the dock, calling the judge “an angel straight from heaven,” which drew a mixture of shock and disapproval from those present. The judge, David Hatton QC, responded by adjourning the case to facilitate further investigations into his housing situation.

Brame’s criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling. In May of the previous year, he was sentenced to three months in prison for sexually molesting a 16-year-old girl on a bus in Shipley. The incident involved Brame placing his hand on the girl’s thigh and making inappropriate remarks about paying for “business.” This offence occurred shortly after his release from a separate four-month sentence for exposing himself in Bradford City Park’s mirror pool, an act he claimed was accidental due to a missing button on his trousers.

His pattern of offending includes a 2012 conviction for sexually assaulting his support worker, which resulted in a 28-week jail term. The assault involved groping her during a visit to assist him in the community. Prior to that, he had been spared jail for kissing a nine-year-old girl at a bus stop and asking her to lift her skirt, describing her as “a little cracker.”

In March 2013, Brame was again in the spotlight after he was caught exposing himself at Bradford’s City Park, specifically at the Mirror Pool. He claimed his trousers fell down because the button had fallen off, but witnesses, including a warden and a lifeguard, observed him repeatedly exposing himself in front of children. His behavior was described as disgraceful, especially considering his history of sexual misconduct. He was subsequently jailed for four months after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent exposure, which caused alarm and distress among the public.

Further incidents include an exposure on a First Bus heading into Bradford city center on February 1, 2014, where a mother with two young daughters reported him to police. Brame, described as “an old, scruffy man,” was seen with his trousers down in front of children at the Mirror Pool earlier that day. His repeated failure to adhere to court orders and his ongoing pattern of indecent and sexual behavior have raised serious concerns among law enforcement and the community.

Brame’s criminal record is punctuated by multiple convictions for sexual offences, including the sexual assault of a support worker in December 2012, which led to a 28-day jail sentence. His history also includes a suspended sentence for kissing a young girl and asking her to lift her skirt, as well as a Sexual Offences Prevention Order that prohibits him from unsupervised contact with children under 16 and mandates police registration for seven years.

Despite these measures, Brame’s repeated breaches and disruptive conduct in court highlight the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing his behavior. His case remains under review, with authorities seeking suitable housing and support options to prevent further offending and protect the community from his disturbing actions.
