BRAMPTON MAN, 54, ACCUSED OF RAPE AND REMANDED IN CUSTODY
A MAN accused of raping a teenage girl in Brampton has been remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates in Carlisle.Peter Bennett, 54, of Croft Road, Brampton, is charged with rape and sexual assault by penetration following an incident in the town in the early hours of March 20.
He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today (March 21) and was remanded until his next hearing at Carlisle Crown Court on April 20.
Police say the victim, a 16-year-old girl, is being supported by specialist officers.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information as their investigation progresses.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 1am on March 20, and officers want to hear from anyone who was in the area of Sawmill Lane and Stanley Road at that time who may have seen anything suspicious or who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage.
