PAWANJIT SINGH FROM DURHAM CAUGHT IN SHOCKING VOYEURISM AT WASHINGTON SERVICE STATION
A disturbing case of voyeurism has come to light involving Pawanjit Singh, a man from Durham, who engaged in invasive and illegal activities targeting women in public restrooms.Singh, also known by the nickname Robbie, carried out his illicit acts by sneaking into female toilet cubicles and hiding within them, all the while using his mobile phone to secretly record women as they used the facilities.
During September 2020, Singh managed to capture a total of 26 video clips and six images of various women in several pubs across the North East region.
His actions were carefully concealed, and he exploited private moments for his own sexual gratification, showing a blatant disregard for the privacy and dignity of his victims.
The investigation took a significant turn in May 2021 when a woman at Washington Service Station caught Singh in the act of recording her inside the female toilets.
Confronted by the woman, Singh was immediately identified and the incident was reported to the police.
Her brave intervention was instrumental in uncovering the extent of Singh’s offending.
Law enforcement officials gained access to Singh’s mobile device, which proved crucial in the case.
A thorough examination of his phone revealed the voyeuristic content, confirming his pattern of invasive behavior.
Singh was subsequently charged with 27 counts of voyeurism, reflecting the seriousness and repeated nature of his offenses.
In April, Singh appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to all charges.
The case moved forward, and on Thursday, May 2, Singh, residing at Henry Street, Shiney Row, was brought before Newcastle Crown Court.
The court sentenced him to a year in prison for his crimes.
Additionally, Singh was ordered to spend ten years on the Sex Offenders Register, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was imposed to restrict his future conduct, and he was instructed to have all his electronic devices destroyed to prevent further misuse.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Kate Bain of Northumbria Police expressed her gratitude to the brave woman who confronted Singh and helped uncover the full scope of his depravity.
She emphasized that Singh’s actions involved secretly filming women in what should have been a private space, without their knowledge or consent.
Bain highlighted that Singh showed no respect for the women he targeted, viewing them solely as objects for his own sexual gratification, which underscores the severity of his misconduct and the importance of justice being served.
