PREDATOR WHO RAPED AND MURDERED GIRL DIED IN DURHAM PRISON DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS
A man who raped and murdered a 17-year-old girl as she walked home from school died in a County Durham prison days before Christmas, an inquest heard.Victor Dembovskis died at HMP Frankland on December 20, last year, while serving three life sentences for the rape and murder of 17-year-old Jeshma Raithatha in Greenford, west London, in 2005.
Dembovskis waited in a “den” along a footpath and attacked Jeshma as she walked home from school days before her 18th birthday.
Her body was discovered eight days later.
The car wash worker then fled the country, back to his native Latvia but after it was discovered he had left his keys at the murder scene was extradited back to the UK.
An inquest into his death was opened at Crook Coroners' Court on Thursday (January 29) and heard that Dembovskis was refusing cancer treatment.
Coroners' officer Dawn Carter told the hearing: "I understand the circumstances to be that Mr Dembovskis was suffering from cancer." "A post-mortem examination at Newcastle RVI mortuary gave the cause of death as unknown pending histology and toxicology." She added: "He was refusing treatment for cancer, but was accepting pain relief."
